This is what our candidates are going to do over the next four years:

  • Protect the current two tiered management structure with the District Board overseeing the expert-based Hospital Board.
  • Oversee the design and development of the new state-of- the-art, environmentally friendly “green” hospital to be completed by 2020.  The new hospital will be designed for health care as it will be in the future; not for how it has been in the past.
  • Continue to expand access for Marin residents to health care at all levels; recruit new doctors, establish additional clinics and create an urgent care facility in the new hospital.
  • Reinvest the money generated by Marin General Hospital in the heath care of Marin.

2014 Healthcare District Candidates

Another election is upon us. We at the Alliance proudly endorse Larry Bedard and Jennifer Rienks (incumbents that we supported in past elections) as well as one of our own members and former Chair of the Alliance – Mike Whipple. We hope you agree with us and will vote for these three candidates.

This is what has been accomplished so far by the District Board and our candidates:

  • 2006: Bedard and Rienks were elected to the Marin Healthcare District Board (MHDB) and with the assistance of Whipple and the Alliance, started on their mission to save the hospital from a decade of discord under Sutter.
  • November 2009: MHDB launches a plan to recruit and retain doctors for Marin County.
  • June 2010: MHDB successfully guides the transition from Sutter management to an independent, community owned and operated hospital.
  • Fall 2010: Started the first of nine community clinics to increase access to primary care.
  • 2011: Whipple joined the MGH Audit Committee.
  • May 2012: Successfully recovered over $30 million from Sutter funds inappropriately transferred from Marin General funds.
  • November 2013: Passed a bond to build new full service hospital with a Level 3 Trauma Center, green certification, and state-of-the-art facilities to serve Marin residents.
  • February 2014: Marin General is awarded the Distinguished Hospital Award from HealthGrade for placing in the top 5% of US hospitals.

Things have changed and we are proud of it.

Our candidates have gained the endorsement of most of the elected officials and healthcare providers in Marin – from Congressman Jared Huffman and State Assemblyman Mark Levine to MGH Chief of Staff Patrick Bennett, MD.

This election is the most important we’ve had since 2006.  Our opponents are well organized and would undo all that we have accomplished.

We need to work harder than ever to SAVE OUR HOSPITAL.
