About Us

In early 2006, some 30 residents who care deeply about the future of Marin General came together. Our mission was to identify and support the best candidates for the November 2006 election. There were three vacancies on the board which would guide the future of the hospital as it transitioned from Sutter management to an independent district hospital. As required, the Alliance registered with the Fair Political Practices Commission.

Two candidates, Dr. Larry Bedard and Dr. Jamie Clever accepted the challenge to run as a slate for two of the vacant director positions. We raised about $140,000 in campaign funds to support their candidacy.

Drs. Bedard and Clever ran a spirited, effective and positive campaign. Between them, the Alliance candidates got more than 60% of the vote. This was a gratifying victory, especially in view of the negative campaigning in the last few days prior to the election. Clearly the electorate wants District Board members who are knowledgeable about the issues, who exhibit strong leadership qualities and resist the attacks and smear tactics of the past.

In 2008 we raised $140,000 in support of the re-election of Sharon Jackson and the election of Dr. Hank Simmonds. They won a convincing victory with a combined 53.6% of the vote in a five-candidate field.

In 2010, the Alliance along with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals support the re-election of Dr. Larry Bedard, Dr. Jamie Clever, and Jennifer Rienks, Ph.D. The continuity of their proven leadership is essential in guiding the future of Marin General.
