Meet the Candidates
Hank Simmonds, MD
Harris (Hank) Simmonds, MD was elected in 2008 to "Save our Hospital." He helped do that. Currently, he is Vice-Chair of the District Board. A retired OB-Gyn, he practiced in Marin for 35 years (retired in 2006) delivering 16 tons of babies and helping many women and their families stay well. After high school he served with the 3rd Armored Division in Germany (with Elvis). He returned to school graduating from UCLA with BA in 1963. He completed UCLA Medical School in 1967, Internship at San Francisco General Hospital, then Kaiser-Permanente for OB-Gyn Residency. Dr. Simmonds has participated in Medical Staff administration at Marin General Hospital serving as Chief of the Medical Staff 1983-85, as well as numerous committees and positions. He has taught at University of California San Francisco, on the Medical Advisory Boards of Planned Parenthood and the American Cancer Society. He has recently become a grandfather. His highest aspiration for Marin General Hospital is to see the new hospital built, and for Marin General Hospital to become "Marin Medical Center".
Ann Sparkman, JD
Ann Sparkman has extensive healthcare experience and was appointed the Marin Healthcare District Board in November, 2011. Since 2006 she has served as Deputy Campus Counsel for Health Affairs at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Prior to that she served as in-house counsel at Kaiser Permanente, and also held a senior position in compliance for Kaiser Permanente program-wide. In addition, she was an attorney in private practice for thirteen years, including serving as partner in healthcare law at Hassard Bonnington, LLP. Sparkman has a law degree from the University of San Francisco Law School (JD), a nursing degree from UCSF (BSN), and an undergraduate degree in Zoology from University of California, Berkeley (BA).
